Stamp matching location

From: justplaingeorge (justplaingeorge@yahoo.com) | Date: 2002-10-18 15:30:01 UTC
I was wondering how strongly people felt that a stamp should match
the location? I went on a carving spree last night trying to learn
how and came up with a few fun images that I'd like to go plant.
However, they don't really have anything to do with local areas where
I could place them. The clues would of course go with the stamp.

Ideas? Thoughts? Mint?

Thanks,

Shell,

It doesn't matter if the stamps match the location. I try to match
them whenever possible but sometimes I go along with a theme instead-
-such as a historical event in the area or a hobby that might match
the region. I stretched it when I placed a Seattle Mariners
baseball letterbox along some old railroad tracks a few months
back. I connected the two because there are RR tracks close to the
Seattle Mariners' homefield in Seattle (although the tracks I placed
the letterbox near are 60 miles away!!!) and the train engineers
sound the whistle whenever they pass by the ballpark. I was really
stretching it but nnow there's another letterbox in a place that
once had none AND it's a really nice little outing along a little
visited area for letterboxers to enjoy.

Hope this helps. Hope to see your new stamps along the letterboxing
trails....

I've found boxes where the stamp matched the story but not the locale.
It's a nice change. And sometimes, but less often, the stamp matched
neither the story nor the locale but was a nice stamp anyway. Who is
going to criticize or be disappointed if something doesn't match?
Most of us like the hunt.

I, for one, say carve whatever you like. NO RULES.

Mary

Your shoes don't match your bag!

This is one of the ADG's favorite running gags. Since Sarah is our
carving master and I am the official correspondent, we often find
that our stamps, locations, and clues have absolutely nothing to do
with each other.

Sometimes it is fun to try to make them all meet in the middle as you
can tell from Froggy's Hot Date and Ranger Tom's Excellent
Adventure. I put a Turtle and a Mountain Scorpia on a bench playing
canasta just so I could work them into the story.

So I guess my answer is yes,no, maybe. Have fun and enjoy the
experiences!

Thanks all! : ) Sounds like I shouldn't worry about it and just go
out and plant the stamps! Look for clues soon!

---I don't fret about it at all. My Sheep Series is in the woods and
it's full of deer! Apple Dumpling Gang did one, Froggys Big Date, or
something like that and it was hilarious. Have fun, do what you enjoy!

dvn2r ckr:

I visited your Mariners box. The best part (besides being outdoors on a
beautiful morning!) was the box itself!!! Well done.

Meet you the 2th!

I'm glad you enjoyed the letterbowl, um letterball, uh letterbox.
Funny what you can find at the thrift shops in the "plastic
ware/tupperware's last stand before heaven" section, isn't it? I'm
still trying to figure out what that container was used for? Half
cut onions or something? Any thoughts? Ok--so I'm a very frugal
letterbox placer...

I'm now working on a 3-D Doritos canister letterbox--trying to
figure out where I can hide it. See you on the 2nd. Bring some
friends...
